2018…..lets go!

Yes it’s another 2018 post….now we have addressed that let’s get down to it! I’m not normally a new year new me kinda gal…so I’m setting goals and aims instead!

January is a month of ‘new things’ for me! I’m getting new hair, starting a new gym and oh yeah….A NEW JOB!!!! I’ve had my hair cut shorter so it healthier for when I go lighter/blonder. I’m finally getting back into the gym after a few health issues (I will vlog about this so keep checking the channel) and finally, I leave my job and branch into the world of travel!

First goal….A new job can be nervous enough, let alone stepping into an industry I know very little about. I have been to 3 countries in my whole life but decided to go for it and try something different. I went for a job I had no experience in but thought it sounded like an amazing career! I had 3 interview stages and literally screamed on the train when I had the phone call to congratulate me! And then the nerves set in! Was I good enough, why chose me? And finally can I do this?! And YES, yes I can and my goal is to excel at this and embrace the change.

Second goal….Gym. Getting back and getting healthy again. I’m not over weight and I know that, if anything it’s more for my mental health and the social side of things, so this week I’m going back and hoping to smash it and keep going and to try the classes and help to improve my health and maybe even take up yoga again!

Third goal….Social media. Yes I said it and call me shallow but hear me out…. I mean my blog and YouTube side of things. I want to keep blogging and expand my YouTube and keep making content and videos and growing! Search for me on YouTube: rio corbett and come and join my family and journey!

4th goal….Qualifications. This year I will complete a mental health awareness course. This qualification will be so beneficial not only for myself but so I can help others. Whether it be professionally or by helping family and friends. I know it will help me to help people and that’s a pretty cool qualification and ability to have if you ask me!

5th and final goal….Holiday. I’m really hoping this year will be the year me and olli have a holiday! We haven’t been away together for 5 years due to work and other issues so I’m hoping this year will be our year and we get away.

Let me know any goals/aims you guys have…and how you are going to smash them! Let’s do this….

C h a n g e……

So 2016 has been the second biggest change to my life (olli was kinda a big deal so he is number one!) but this year I’ve had 2 health diagnosis’ and had to make a lot of unwanted and/or necassry adjustments and changes to my life.

This year my health went down hill and hospital for a while was a monthly occurrence, but it’s luckily all under control to a certain extent, but it helped me realise that life is too short and whilst I’m not currently dying and I appreciate I could have a lot worser conditions it hit me that maybe I should do what I want and be who I want. And that lead me to blog, and to ‘go for it’

Confidence. Now I don’t have much, at all, but I took a massive leap this year confidence wise. I started this blog, got a second job and really tried to be me. And I realsied it’s ok to not be ok and to reach out to people who may be feeling that way.

Goals. This year I have a few goals, and I will get them as smash them. I want to drive again, and get back my license (which I surrendered for medical reasons), I want to keep developing myself as a person, keep meeting new people, and get an amazing camera to further my blog and social media ambitions.

I’m not afraid to say this year has changed me as I’ve met some lovely new people in both my jobs, met some lovely people through blogging, and I’ve also met some people who have been lessons to me and for all of that I’m thankful.

Thanks 2016, you been an uphill year, but here’s to 2017 and more blessings and lessons 🥂

Hope you all have an awesome 2017 and smash whatever goals/targets/resolutions you may have 💫

So today was a ‘christmassy’ day! We went for a lovely walk with my parents and had lunch out with them too at a beautiful garden called ‘trebah gardens’ such a wonderful place for a walk and the food was soooo good!! It’s full of Christmas vibes and I swear they have captured the exact smell of Xmas too as it smells so festive and warming! I seriously recommend anyone to go there and walk, take pics of the beautiful and then fill your simachs in the cafe. They have food for everyone and the most lovely handmade cakes! Everything is freshly made and so delicious.

After the walk and food we came home and napped Haha! And then it was gingerbread house time……my fav time! Me and little buddy decorated and iced our hearts out and took one pic before it collapsed, but that was ok, as we were actually having it for dinner!

I am shameful to say I sucked at adulting/parenting this evening as we had that house and milk for our tea and I’m contemplating a pizza delivery later……no I am having a pizza delivery later haha!

Today has been a busy day and in comparison to normal days, it’s been a rubbish parenting day in respect of the food choices and sugar content we have consumed but hey……it’s one day and it’s nearly Xmas so yes this evening i may have sucked at parenting but I have a happy son, who is making another awesome memory 🙂

Now it’s December and nearly Christmas the nights have gotten so much colder and need to be cosy! I love a good cosy night in!

Here is my ingredients for a perfect cosy night……partner maybe/may not be included haha!

Firstly a blanket….now this is needed! I have a massive blanket from Sainsbury’s that’s perfect for snuggling although I am hoping to buy a mermaid blanket soon!! Next is the tv, make sure it’s something good, or even better, something Christmassy! My cosy night in also isn’t complete without a festive smell! And for this I turn to my pick and melt wax melts. They have the loveliest range of smells perfect for anytime of the year!

Now onto food and drink! A nice warm drink is needed, whether it’s the basic tea, coffee or hot choc or something special like mulled wine/cider or some bubbles……a drink is needed! And snacks, now depending on how you feel these good be the classics biscuit or the big old box of quality streets, you could have some healthy fruity snacks or you be a savoury person and go for crisps or the Classic, cheese savouries!!! Orrrr you may be super indulgent and have all of the above haha!

And I’m sure a spot of pampering wouldn’t go a miss…pop on a hair or face mask and do your nails….and relaaaaaxxx!

How ever you spend your cosy nights, let me know! Let me know if you have some ingredients I haven’t!

So nobody wants to think about keeping fit over Xmas really, but it’s something that you need to do if you don’t want to hit that January slump when you realise you’ve gained a few pounds and have the horrible ‘oh I’ve let myself go’ feeling. But have no fear….the fitness fairy is here!

First thing…..breakfast! Setting yourself up right is so important. But you want something quick, easy and filling oh and of course tasty! This is something that only needs 1 hour, once a week to make!  I have posted my recipe below, it’s not my original recipe but I have adapted it to suit me and what I had! You could also swap the zero syrup for normal maple syrup but this one tastes just as good and is better for you……winner! This makes about 7 servings 🙂

Ok, so you’ve had a healthy breakfast and have a free 30 mins……it’s HIIT time! A high intensity interval workout, I love these and try and do them (alongside my normal gym workouts) every week. But that’s all you need is half an hour 4 times a week!  Oh and no gym! So it’s like a pick and mix of exercises really as all you do is choose 6-8 of the following exercises pictured below and do 3 rounds, 50 secs, 40 secs and last one is only 30 secs. Try and just have a 5-10 second break between each exercise (maximum 20 second rest so the heart rate remains raised) this will ensure you work up a sweat and keep burning calories long after you’ve finished working out.

Walking is also a great social way to keep fit and moving over Xmas, a nice wintery Christmas walk can do wonders for the body, mind and digestive system. Get out in the fresh air, walk up and down those hills, take some out and about selfies and enjoy being active!

Switching……switching from white to brown can be a good way to reduce your sugar intake! So instead of white bread, have a nice seeded whole meal loaf or even rye bread! And switch white rice to wholgeain/wild rice or even a total switch to quinoa. A good spaghetti switch is from pasta to veg! Hello courgetti haha, this is a great low carb alternative to pasta and is so quick and easy to do with a bolognaise.

Next is will power! Now this is something I can’t wave a magical wand and grant you with. It’s something you have to harvest and stick with. People always say ‘oh go on, it’s Christmas’ but no! Stop that……you wouldn’t binge eat chocolates throughout the year so don’t do it now! I mean have a little treat but keep it minimal so it feels special when you do and you don’t get that sluggish feeling. Imagine how your poor digestive system feels when yet another load of chocolate and cake and alcohol coming down to say hi! It doesn’t feel good, and nor will you! So limit yourself, have the odd treat and by reducing it, the times out do have a treat it will feel so much better and more of a treat/reward. Especially if you have been eating well and hitting those HIIT Workouts, yes the pun was intended!

And just remember that moderation is key over Xmas! Enjoy it, have a green tea, have a chocolate, have a drink but do it in moderation and have a holly jolly healthy Christmas! Plus being healthy over Xmas saves any extra hard work you may have had to put in over January working off aallllllll those quality streets!

Please note……I am not qualified I am just telling you lovely people about the knowledge I have picked up and use myself so please so be careful when exercising and I hope the granola is as yummy for you as it is for me! 💫

So at the weekend, me and my little man jumped on a train and went to exeter for the night. I knew we would get up there is the darkness so I couldn’t resist, after having an amazing meal at Wagamama, taking a lovely Christmas evening walk and upheld a tradition of mine……looking at the lights! I’m not sure if it a tradition or an obsession but I love to look at the lights! Wherever I go, I want to the lights!

These lights were curtesy of Exeter! We had dinner and went for the obligatory light walk! It was so pretty! There is something about these lights that make me feel all warm and happy inside. Maybe I need a life who knows, but I like them!

Here’s what we found……

Today was the day…the day the tree went up! And after the drama of finding a massive spider in the box….it was time to assemble the tree!

I don’t have a real tree, I have an artificial put together tree and I love it! 6ft of loveliness! I stick to neutral colours, black, grey, white and silve…..and glitter of course!

I have a fav decoration I won’t lie! It’s gold and glittery and over the top! It’s a crown!! And I love it so it goes near the top in plain sight!

I’m not a fan of lots of decs cluttering up everywhere so I like to keep it simple with little touches here and there. I love my skull so had to give a Xmas twist!

I love my little front room and the tree and Xmas touches! It’s subtle yet lovely and I will be sad when I have to take them down!

Thanks for reading day 5 of blogmas!!!

So today was dedicated to Christmas shopping! And boy did we shop!! Oh and I went to my first Xmas market! And oh my goodness, that was such a cute experience! It was full of Christmas cheer and festive delights. And I fell in love with the market!

I went to one in Exeter and it was situated by a stunning back drop, the cathedral! It was full to the brim with goodies, food and drink and the smell was so Christmassy and tasty! All the stall were set up in little wooden style chalets and were all decorated and full with locally made or handmade gifts. I found my grandad the most unique gift too which I’m so happy about.

I also took this opportunity to do some Christmas shopping too for my self (whilst in the town) but you can see what I bought in an upcoming post (it’s a makeup related……shocker!)

The food stalls smelt amazing, such a huge range from pancakes to pies and cheeses to champagne, there really was something for every appetite. Even lobster! Oh yeah and an alpine style ski chalet bar. I was taken back by the beauty of some of the handmade and handcrafted gifts for sale, such detail and time. And most things were available to personalise to add and make something even more special!

I must say I am now feeling seriously Christmassy now and am more than ready to put the decs up next week!!!
